Passenger Terminal Information

Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) has a very fast growing passengers movement since it was built during 1980s. In 2000, Singapore Changi reach its maximum limit to handle lots of international air traffic that is still growing until now. To ease the overcrowded Changi, Government of Singapore decided to built a new international airport which will be closer to the downtown of Singapore. They called the local and international architects to present their new designs for this airport. The winner is now what we called Singapore Marina Bay International Airport (SMBIA), that will be built on reclamation land south of Marina Bay Area. Its first international long-haul flight was from London-Heathrow to SMBIA via Hong Kong operated by British Asia Airways. The old passenger terminal was pretty small, with no aerobridges and lots of remote parkings. It was the symbol of Singapore, because it was the only airport there that built on reclamation land. Because of a growing air traffic, the old terminal demolished and replaced by the new Terminal 1. In 2009, Singapore Airlines started to move its hub to SMBIA by 60%. That's the beginning of this great airport to become the world hub in such strategic location like Singapore.

The first terminal of SMBIA, Terminal 1, built in 2009. It can handle aircrafts as big as Airbus A321, A330-200, and Boeing 757-200. Terminal 1 used mainly by Jetstar Asia Airways, Silk Air, and Tigerair Singapore, their subsidiaries, and many regional airliners that fly to SMBIA. It contains 5 single narrowbody aerobridges and 4 remote parkings. First floor of this terminal is the airlines check-in area, arrival-departure gates, and escalators to Underground Connection that are connecting all of 3 SMBIA's terminals. There are lots of famous restaurants and duty-free shops, such as Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Kinokuniya bookstore. Second floor is the waiting area with a baggage security area. Third floor of the East and West Hall is the observation deck called Spotter's Spot. Third and fourth floor of main terminal building is airlines' offices. At the west of Terminal 1 is the cargo, testing aircraft, and VIP aprons.

Terminal 2 is under construction as of 2015, with a temporary terminal is in the front of it. It's expected to be finished in 2016. It will contains 22 aerobridges: 4 multiple widebody aerobridges, 7 single widebody aerobridges, and 11 single narrowbody aerobridges. 11 widebody aerobridges can handle aircrafts as big as Airbus A380. Terminal 2 will divided in 3 sections: Terminal 2A, Terminal 2B, and Terminal 2C. Terminal 2A will used by Oneworld members. Terminal 2B will used by Skyteam members. Terminal 2C will used by non-affiliated airlines. First floor of the building will be the garage for Ground Services Equipment (GSE), Underground Connection escalators at Terminal 2A, and escalators from second floor for passengers to the aircraft which is not connected by aerobridges, which could be on foot or via airport bus. Second floor will be the waiting area (only for Terminal 2A: baggage security area). Rooftop floor is where the Skytrain is, connecting the 3 sections, since every section will be divided by a thick wall. There are escalators from second floor to Rooftop floor on each section of the terminal, as well as 3 Skytrain station on each sections. When it finished, it will be the largest airport terminal building in SMBIA.

Terminal 3 is planned to be completed in 2015. It is now under construction. It will contains 7 aerobridges: 1 double widebody aerobridge, 1 single widebody aerobridge, and 5 narrowbody aerobridges. 2 widebody aerobridges can handle aircrafts as big as Airbus A380. It will be used by Singapore Airlines and its subsidiaries (except Silk Air), and also Star Alliance members. If Terminal 1 has a ferry port, then Terminal 3 has a carpark that the entrance and the exit go under a taxiway. First floor is the GSE garage and escalator for non-connected aircraft passengers, like what Terminal 2 had. An elevated road will be at second floor, along with the arrival-departure gates and a check-in area. Also, there's waiting area and a baggage security area. At the north of Terminal 3, there's apron for remote parkings.

Runway 09L/27R is located south of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, while runway 09R/27L is at the east of Terminal 2. The airport aprons, taxiways, and runways recently looks like a construction site. When the marks and concrete panels of aprons, taxiways, and runways are placed, Terminal 3 also finished. The location of Terminal 2 is right now sea. the reclamation land still at building process of emptying the land: make some sort of hole and dump the water out of the "hole". Soon, Terminal 2 is expected at the phase where dirt being dumped inside the "hole" until full as the terminal's foundation. All the airport layout actually is on the reclamation land, south of Marina Bay area, near the Batam Island.
